Log in to the Origin client using the same account that you use to play The Sims 4 on PC. Open origin app through applications folder. An account is required to play The Sims 4. (You should be prompted on how to do all this, I'm not techy at all and had little to no problem getting it up and running after purchase) The game has to download into the origin app, AND your actual hard drive. I've gotten 2 bundles so far (2 EPs, 2 GPs, 2 SPs) about 5 of the most popular mods, and tons of CC and surprisingly have had very little lag when playing which I wasn't expecting. Mac's are not known to be great gaming computers lol so if you get the base game up and running, I would be careful with your additional downloads. Download a mod, run game and see how it is, download second mod/pack see how game runs with increased content etc. This way if you notice a serious lag, bug, etc.
as you're adding content whether it be from EA or modders, you can more easily pinpoint when it started happening and adjust accordingly. Again hasn't happened to me yet, but the specs for the air are not great IMO so just thought I'd throw that tip out there.
